Buy the truth, and sell it not.
Is it ok to be gay? Is homosexuality a sin?
Is it ok to have an abortion?
Is it ok to have premarital sex?
In a world where truth is constantly being redefined and shaped/influenced by ideologies, emotions, experience, science and modernity, truth may oftentimes seem elusive, but it’s not, if we recognize the source of all TRUTH.
So what is truth? And who/what is the source of all truth?
Truth is the property of being in accord with fact or reality. In what context, or view do we define fact or reality, how do we know the reality in itself is “true” and doesn’t contain falsehood. Before I bore you with the whole metaphysics and philosophical jargons, I’ll say this; God is truth, the Bible(the word of God) is truth.
Truth is that which is constant and unchangeable, and we know that only God is both constant and unchangeable.
Think about it, God has been before the foundations of the world (Isaiah 48:13, Job 38:4). From the Stone age, to the Bronze Age, leading up to the Iron Age. He was there when men lived in caves, and all they thought about was hunting for food with primitive weapons like stone (yes, I am a scientist and this is how I’m inclined to explain this LOL.) He’s still here today in our highly modernized world, with so many mind blowing technological advancements.
Truth is that which is consistent with the mind, will, character, glory, and being of God. It is the self-expression of God. God’s holy book, the Bible was written thousands of years ago and it is still very well powerful and life changing even today. If you’re lost as to what truth really is then study the Bible, it is truth.
Anything outside God’s truth is a LIE.
Truth is the intrinsic nature of God, therefore God cannot lie. No matter how morally OK it sounds, or how socially reasonable or even humanly applaudable, if it goes against the word and nature of God, then it is a lie.
In these times, it is extremely important especially as believers to understand, know, and live God’s truth. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, I have highlighted five practical ways for doing just that.
1. Don’t reject God’s truth.
It is one thing to identify God’s truth, it is another thing to ACCEPT it. So many people today actually have come in contact with God’s truth at some point in their life, but they have rejected it either because of peer influence, fear, lack of understanding or trying to “please” men. As believers, we must realize that God’s truth is absolute and not relative to our preference. The Bible says the more truth we accept, the more truth will be given to us. But the more truth we reject, the less we will get and even that which we think we know will be taken from us.
“To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.” (Matthew 13:12)
2. Don’t hide or suppress God’s truth from others.
This is one thing the church must be mindful of. In Jesus’ days, the religious leaders were the ones suppressing the truth (Jesus) because of pride and for their selfish reasons. They tried to get people to turn against Jesus severally by asking Him very tricky questions, and they twisted His words. If you’re in a position of leadership or you have an opportunity to teach the word, do not suppress, or hide God’s truth, seek to speak the truth and correct every misconception at all times in love and truth. If you see a believer living a lie, do not look away, instead try to correct in love and with prayers.
“Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.” Ephesians 4:25 ESV
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” Romans 1:18 ESV
3. Make God’s word the focal point by which you weigh ideas and beliefs.
The problem with this is that some of us believers don’t study God’s word. Going through “Christian contents” on Instagram is not equal to reading the Bible. Reading a devotional is not equal to reading God’s word. In order to be able to test every spirit and weigh every opinion side by side we must know what is written in God’s word. Even Jesus when He was tempted replied with “it is written”, we need to know what is written to be able to pull down the lies of the enemy. The psalmist says; thy word have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Having God’s words engraved on our hearts is very key.
In the last days, false prophets will arise. A false prophet is also a prophet, only that his prophecy is FALSE. It takes knowing God’s word to be able to discern between true and false prophecy. We must study to know God’s word and let it reside in our hearts so it becomes a focal point for us.
4. Prayers.
The importance of prayers cannot be overemphasized. Prayer changes things in the spirit. We can consistently and literally pray ourselves into God’s truth. The admonishment by apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians, is proof that it is very possible for lies to invade our minds, and truth diminished. That we’re starting to accept certain ideologies and beliefs which we once understood to be a lie is not ordinary, there are forces at work, that must be disbanded by prayers.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4 AMPC
“We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 TPT
5. Yield to the Holy spirit.
He is the spirit of truth, his work is to guide us into all truth, but we must first yield for the leading or guiding to be possible. The more we yield, the more He guides us into all truth.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13.
Finally, Jesus said in John 8:32, you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free, knowing God’s truth is equal to freedom. Freedom from fear, confusion and self absorption that is gripping the world in these last days.

- Reflect, ask yourself “have I really been living God’s truth?”
- Pray for grace and repent; decide by the help of the Holy Spirit to live in God’s truth going forward.
